A Guide for Pet Caregivers

Sittings are extended care services which take place at the Pet Parent's home. This service can be, at the shortest, over the course of a few hours, or more often, overnight and for a few days or more. Pet Caregivers can typically come and go during the day, but please be mindful of the Pet Parent’s expectations of your availability to be with their pet(s).

When considering a Sitting service, many Pet Caregivers suggest speaking with the Pet Parent beforehand to go over:

  • Expectations of the service (pet activities, updates, overnight stays, etc.)
  • Feeding instructions
  • Special needs or medications
  • Pet(s) likes and dislikes
  • Home entry / exit preferences

This is a great way to make sure that it's a good fit for everyone.

How long should I stay?

This is up to you and the Pet Parent! The Pet Parent will indicate their preference in the booking using either a green checkmark (✔️) or a red cross (❌):

✔️ YES, Pet can be left alone for more than 4 hours (communicate with the Parent)

This guideline advises Pet Caregivers are free to come and go during the day, provided the pet has access to necessary resources as detailed by the Pet Parent. It’s best to communicate with the Pet Parent directly to understand their expectations.

NO, Owner prefers pet not be alone for more than 4 hours

This guideline advises that the Pet Parent would like their pet NOT to be left alone for extended periods, especially without access to necessary resources like food, water, and bathroom breaks. It's essential to discuss the pet's specific needs and any potential concerns with them directly.

Do I stay overnight?

When it comes to Sitting services, some Pet Parents will request an overnight stay (which includes an additional payout for you!).

When an overnight stay has been requested by the Pet Parent, it will appear directly on the Available service request under the service notes, which are visible prior to you requesting the service.

This crucial information is also indicated in the "Sitting notes from Pet Parents" by either a green checkmark (✔️) or a red cross (❌):

✔️ YES, the Pet Parent is requesting an overnight stay.

NO, the Pet Parent does not require an overnight stay.

How will I access the home?

Home access information will be provided by the Pet Parent prior to the service, and will be available to you for the duration of your Sitting.

Can I book other services with an active Sitting?

While you can only have one active Sitting (or Boarding) service at a time, you are still able to schedule Walks and Drop-Ins! Remember to keep in mind whether the Pet Parent prefers their pet(s) to not be left alone for extended periods when scheduling other services.
