# What is Dynamic Pricing?

  

Dynamic Pricing is a feature that empowers you as an [**independent business owner**](https://support.wagwalking.com/en_us/what-is-an-independent-contractor-pcg-SJp0EHIVq) to set competitive rates tailored to your expertise and market demand. You will be able to set your own rates for services and additional pet fees.

## Setting Your Rates

You have complete control over your rates on the Wag! Platform. To help you set competitive prices, the Dynamic Pricing tool compares your rates to local market averages. It alerts you when your rates are higher than the typical range for your area, which can lead to fewer bookings as Pet Parents often choose more affordable options.

### What is the "Average Price in My Area”?

The "Average Price" is the cumulative average price that other Pet Caregivers in your area are charging for the same service type. This data can help you understand local market rates and make informed pricing decisions. While you have complete freedom to set your rates, be aware that pricing significantly above or below the average may influence the Pet Parents' demand for your services.

#### **What defines "my area" for the pricing?**

The local market, or your 'area', is defined by your [**Available Service Filters**](https://support.wagwalking.com/en_us/how-do-i-update-my-service-filters-pcg-ryBU8RV5) where you can update the location you want to search for available service requests in and the distance from it that you are willing to travel up to provide pet care for.

#### What is the “Pro” tag next to the average price range?

Because there is higher demand from Pet Parents for qualified and dedicated Caregivers, Pet Caregivers who have subscribed for [**Wag! Pro**](https://support.wagwalking.com/en_us/what-is-wag-pro-ryMokZ08h) will see a higher average service pricing, indicated by the "Pro" tag.

  

### How do I set my service pricing in my app?

To set your service pricing in the Wag! Pet Caregivers app:

**Android**

1\. Tap “Pricing” on the bottom nav bar

2\. From here, you can adjust your fees for all services you offer, as well as additional pet rates

3\. Once you've set your rates, tap “Save” to apply them to future bookings

**iOS**

1\. Tap "Services" on the bottom nav bar

2\. From here, you can adjust your fees for all services you offer, as well as additional pet rates

*   You can also “Turn off” your offer to provide specific services

> **Please note a service must be “Turned on”** in order **to set your rate** and to view available services for that service type.  

3\. Once you've set your rates, tap “Save” to apply them to future bookings

# Understanding Bidding

  

Before opting into a service, you can modify your bid, or pricing, as needed. Once you've submitted your bid and requested the service, the pricing for that service cannot be changed. After requesting a service, if you're matched with a Pet Parent, you'll be notified, and the service will appear within your "Booked" tab.

**_Remember, once a service has been confirmed booked,_** _**the** **service rate and associated fees are locked in for that service**. The only way to adjust the pricing for a specific service is if the Pet Parent were to cancel and re-book the service after you’ve adjusted your rates._

## Payout Amount vs. Service Cost

The pricing displayed to Pet Parents is based on the rates you set within your “Pricing” (Android) or “Services” (iOS) tabs in the Pet Caregiver app. You can adjust these settings at any time, but changes will not reflect on services that have already been requested or approved. 

To understand how much Pet Parents will pay for your services, multiply your pricing settings by 1.67. Keep in mind that Pet Parents may also pay a tip, bookings fees, and/or any applicable state taxes, which will not be included in this estimate.
